Mumbai skipper and batting mainstay Aditya Tare has opted to pull out of the Ranji opener for his state against Madhya Pradesh in Indore on October 14, as his wife back home is expecting a baby.

Before their first fixture, Tare had already informed the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) selectors regarding the birth of a baby anytime. The 29-year-old Tare told the cricket administration that it would not be possible for him to travel to Indore for their game.

“I would like to thank the selectors, association and my teammates for understanding my situation and supporting me through it,” Tare was quoted as saying by Mid-Day.

Pertinently, the 27-year-old and vice-captain Suryakumar Yadav for Mumbai got named as the stand-in skipper for the all-important fixture against Devendra Bundela-led side MP. After the first round kicked-off from October 6 across distinct venues, the second round will witness 24 teams wrestling at 12 different venues, as the fixtures will be held between October 14 and 17, respectively owing to the four-day tournament.

Massive blow for the Ranji rulers Mumbai, the side which eventually won 41 coveted domestic titles, would be playing without regular skipper and middle-order wicket-keeper batsman Tare.

Interestingly, Madhya Pradesh will host Mumbai, as the two different sides are relying on their strength and hinging on the experience to leave the significant impact.

However, this time around Mumbai would be competing without the first choice players, as some of the players are recuperating from injuries with further saw several players concurrently featuring for India A against New Zealand A.

Earlier, Ajinkya Rahane, who featured in the recently concluded ODI series against Australia, was also considered as the priority for the Mumbai squad by the selectors of the state.

However, the opening batsman Rahane is currently enjoying holidaying at Seychelles, the part in East Africa with his family and on the other side makeshift opening batsman Rohit Sharma is concurrently on the national duty against Australia. The 29-year-old top-order batsman Rahane also had a word with MCA selectors for his unavailability regarding the first fixture of his stateside.

It would be interesting to see how Mumbai will perform against decent-looking Madhya Pradesh side which includes Naman Ojha and Ishwar Pandey.

The depleted looking Mumbai include Dhawal Kulkarni, Abhishek Nayar and Balwinder Sandhu, but the state has set the legacy of its own since the history of the Ranji competition.

In the recent past, Yadav has been at the forefront while shouldering the responsibility of the domestic side, before being asked to step down owing to the disciplinary action. In the previous edition of the Ranji, Mumbai side was the runners-up when Parthiv Patel-led Gujarat clinched the coveted trophy.

Mumbai’s incumbent Tare, who has been the part of Mumbai Indians in the widely-acclaimed Indian Premier League (IPL), made his first-class debut against Orissa in 2009 after earning his List A debut in 2008 against Baroda.
