Indian premier spinner especially in Tests, Ravindra Jadeja, is expected to be part of the Saurashtra side when his team takes on Jammu and Kashmir in Rajkot on Sunday.
Jadeja who got left out of the Indian team for the ongoing limited-overs series against Australia has joined the Saurashtra team for the practice sessions.
“He (Jadeja) has been training with us for the last couple of days, and it is a good thing for the team to have him around,” Saurashtra coach Shitanshu Kotak was quoted as saying by Sportstar.
The coach also conceded the fact that Jadeja’s presence will help them strategise better with the bundle of international experience under him.
“This home game against Jammu and Kashmir is crucial. We have got off to a good start, and it is important to maintain that momentum. Jadeja comes with vast experience, and that will help us do better at home,” Kotak said.
After Jadeja was left out of the limited-overs team for the Australia series, it was expected that Jadeja would be a part of the Saurashtra XI for their opening Ranji Trophy clash against Haryana, but a family marriage prevented that from happening. Saurashtra was led by another India international, Cheteshwar Pujara.
“The preparation is good for the second match. A bit of fine-tuning was required here and there, and we have done it,” Kotak said.
Saurashtra had also missed their regular skipper Jaydev Shah in the opener against Haryana due to his wedding. He is expected to be back for the next match against Jammu and Kashmir. In that case, Cheteshwar Pujara might play just as a batsman. A final decision on the same hasn’t been taken yet.
“We have a settled side, and the presence of Jadeja and Pujara will help us get the edge in the early stages of the tournament. That’s something we are looking forward to,” Kotak added.
