Watch: Wayne Rooney Scores Absolute Stunner On Second Everton Debut

4900 days after his last Premier League goal for Everton at Goodison Park, Wayne Rooney has marked his second debut with a moment of brilliance.

In the first half of Everton’s first game against Stoke City this afternoon, former Manchester United striker Rooney produced a cracking finish after great play for another new signing, Sandro Ramirez, in the final third.

Rooney’s movement in the box left Stoke defenders stranded as he powered home a perfectly timed header to give Ronald Koeman’s side a 1-0 lead on the stroke of half-time.

You could tell how much the goal meant to the 31-year-old. What a finish:

Wayne Rooney lifted five Premier League titles, three League Cups and a Champions League trophy during his time at Manchester United, but his 13-year spell at Old Trafford came to an end this summer.

Rooney achieved just about everything at United, but it looks like a return to boyhood club Everton has reinvigorated the striker.

Just look at the emotion and passion after his goal against Stoke on Saturday.

The 31-year old was anything but first-choice under Jose Mourinho last season, and that must have made the decision to go back to Goodison Park, the ground he lit up after bursting onto the scene as a teenager, a lot easier.

Rooney knew as early as November that he would be on the move. As quoted by The Telegraph, he said:

“It was around November I knew [I’d be leaving]. I spoke to Jose in January to see what his opinions were and he always said he wanted me to stay and help the team until the end of the season.

“I did that. I helped in the games he put me in but I knew I had to leave to move forward for my career. It was a sad moment because I had been at the club for 13 years but I had to think of my career as well.”

What a moment for the England international. Will we see the Wayne Rooney of old this season?
