    One of the very few players to have played more than 1000 games in club football, Maldini has 902 club games, 126 Italy caps, 26 trophies and 25 seasons and stands as one of the best defenders to have ever played the game.

    The worst nightmare of even the best strikers in world football, the 49-year old, who celebrated his birthday this Monday, gave a whole new definition to defending and was always a treat to watch on the field.

    A sensational leader at the San Siro, the Italian star is trying his hand currently in the sport of tennis but his legacy in football will never be forgotten.

    He is also one of the most decorated defenders, winning five Champions League trophies, seven Serie A titles, one Coppa Italia, five Supercoppa Italiana titles, five European Super Cups two Intercontinental trophies and a FIFA World Cup and helped establish AC Milan as one of the best clubs in the world in his time.

    In 2007, he also became the eldest player to captain his side to a Champions League trophy and surely, his legacy will live forever.
